The Building Construction Intern Program was introduced in 1990 as pilot "Focus" program recognized by the Minister of Education as a meaningful alternative classroom for senior secondary school students to learn and to earn credits toward graduation while building a home or significant projects. Harvest House will be the 70th house built by BCIP students in cooperation with The Kingston Home Builders Association representing over $14 million dollars in total sales. To date all charitable donations back to the community from the program exceed one hundred and fifty thousand dollars. The program has won provincial and national awards and continues to be highly successful. Many students who spend a semester in BCIP pursue careers in building trades and related fields such as architecture and engineering. |

Burt's Greenhouses is a local grower of spring bedding and vegetable plants. We have tried to decrease our carbon footprint by means of a Biomass Heating System. I worked as a teacher in the mechanical power and refrigeration department in Kuwait Technological Studies from fall 2002 to 2006. I joined the Queen's University Solar Vehicle Team and designed and built the electrical systems for the team's eleventh car as the electrical manager for two years. Since then, I have been part of the inception of the Queen's Solar Design Team, an initiative to design and build a net-zero energy home for competition in the Solar Decathlon.
