Solar Thermal System Grand Prize for Fundraiser

3. TAB Mechanical and eco-NET Technologies have partnered to create a fund raiser for Gleaners Food Bank in Belleville. The grand prize is a solar thermal system, including solar thermal panels and a hot water tank. Second prize is a home energy audit, and third prize is for home LED lighting. Tickets are $5 each or five for $20 and can be purchased from Quinte Conservation, the Frink Centre, and the Quinte Exhibition (taking place Sep 2 to 5). The draw takes place on September 30. Tickets are available now and through to the end of September. All proceeds will be donated to Gleaners Food Bank.

Kingston Comes First in Count Me In! Community Challenge

Kingston won the highest per capita reduction in energy consumption on Community Challenge Day, Friday, August 14th. Energy usage was reduced by 7.8% over a 12 hour period, when compared against the previous days use.

Sioux Lookout won for receiving the largest number of pledges per capita.

Community Challenge Day takes place on the anniversary of the 2003 North American blackout. This August 14th ended up being a very hot day. The reduction in power consumption illustrates the community's commitment to conserve energy.

Energy House selected as 5-Bloom Recipient

Energy House, located on the grounds of St. Lawrence College, won two awards in the 2009 Communities in Bloom civic beautification program. More points were awarded this year for environmental awareness and sustainability. Energy House was presented with the Mayor's Choice Award and the District Award in the Public Garden category. The awards were presented at a Victorian Tea held at Royal Military College on August 12th.
